How Does a Round of Murder Mystery 2 Work?
A round of Murder Mystery 2 starts with the game quietly handing out roles: one Murderer with a knife, one Sheriff with a gun and a lobby full of Innocents with nothing but their legs. The Murderer wins by taking out everyone. Everyone else wins if the Murderer gets shot or the timer runs out first.

While they hide, Innocents grab the coins scattered around the map until their coin bag is full. Coins pay for Mystery Boxes and powers in the lobby shop, so even a round you lose leaves you with something. During the Halloween 2026 event, Candies take the place of coins.
Pro tip: when the Sheriff goes down, don’t run straight at the dropped gun. The Murderer knows exactly where it fell and often waits beside it, so come in from another angle or let someone else try first.
Which Murder Mystery 2 Mode Should You Play?
Play Standard if you’re new, Disguises if you want a real whodunit, and Assassin if you want to get better at throwing knives. You pick the mode from the lobby, and your level, coins and inventory carry over to all three.

Disguises is the closest thing MM2 has to a pure detective mode. You can’t spot the Murderer by their avatar or their favorite knife skin, so you end up watching how people move, who walks away from a body and who keeps drifting toward the group.
What Are Powers in MM2, and Which One Should You Buy First?
Powers are abilities that only work when you’re the Murderer. You equip one in the lobby before the round, and it sits unused in any round where you draw Innocent or Sheriff. Everyone starts with Footsteps, which shows other players’ tracks, and the other nine are Sleight, Ninja, Sprint, Fake Gun, Haste, Trap, Decoy, Ghost and X-Ray.
Prices in the shop run from 1,000 Coins for Sleight and Ninja up to 6,000 Coins for Ghost and X-Ray, the two most expensive. The community’s usual first buy is Haste at 3,000 Coins: it’s a passive speed boost while your knife is out, so there’s no cooldown to manage and it pays off in every Murderer round. How Do You Get Godly Knives and Guns in MM2?
You get Godlys in three ways: open Mystery Boxes with your Coins, earn them during seasonal events, or trade for them with other players. Boxes are pure luck, events reward time spent in the game, and trading is how most players finally land the specific Godly they want.
MM2 weapons climb from Common through Uncommon, Rare and Legendary to Godly, with Ancients sitting above that and Chromas as color-shifting versions of certain Godlys. Event Godlys can’t be unboxed once their event ends, which is why they’re the ones everybody asks for in trades. This Halloween, for example, the Embersickle comes from the Halloween Box, the Emberbow sits at the top of the battle pass and the Cauldron combines the two into the Emberscythe. Heads up: trade only through the game’s own trade window. Sites that sell MM2 knives and guns for real money aren’t part of Roblox, and buying from them breaks Roblox’s rules. Anyone who rushes you to accept, or asks you to hand over an item first “to show trust,” is setting up a scam.
Does Murder Mystery 2 Have Codes?
No. No Murder Mystery 2 codes are working as of October 22, 2026. Nikilis has released free knife codes in the past, and the official game description still tells players to follow for more, but none are live right now. What’s Happening in Murder Mystery 2 Right Now?
Halloween 2026 is live in Murder Mystery 2 until November 16, 2026, at 18:00 UTC (10 a.m. PT, 1 p.m. ET). The official event, billed as a retro Halloween, started on October 18. It swaps coins for Candies, adds a 30-tier battle pass with the Emberbow as its final reward and brings in a new Haunted House 2 map alongside older Halloween maps.
MM2 doesn’t run on numbered updates. It moves from season to season, and these are the developer’s own events from the past year:
- October 18, 2025: Halloween 2025, the one where aliens invaded MM2 (ran until November 17).
- December 14, 2025: Christmas 2025, the Winter Update (until January 19, 2026).
- December 20, 2025: Santa’s List, a hunt for 7 hidden items (until December 29).
- February 13, 2026: Valentine’s 2026, with a new mystery box (until March 16).
- July 23, 2026: Summer 2026 and its seasonal rewards (until August 23).
- October 18, 2026: Halloween 2026 (until November 16).
If the pattern holds, Christmas is the next big one in mid-December, but Nikilis hasn’t announced it yet.

Murder Mystery 2 is still huge because every round is a fresh whodunit, and you can win one on your very first day. On October 22, 2026, it was the second most-played game on Roblox’s US Top Playing Now chart, behind only Steal An Egg, and it was the oldest game in that top 25 by a wide margin. Its 24.6 million favorites and 91% approval tell the same story.
